New Year – New You
Whether you’ve already made your personal new year’s resolutions or have decided to wing it, 2017 is a time to start off fresh. From improving your relationship with your residents to keeping an organized inbox, take some inspiration from these 5 common property management New Year’s resolutions. It’s never too early to start the New Year off on the right foot.
- Increase the Number of Applicants and Leads
While economic conditions fluctuate, it’s good to set standards for yourself and your property’s marketing. Whether you start posting your vacant listings 2 times a day or try to increase your property’s reputation with the neighborhood, setting goals like these can help you understand what the most effective way to attract applicants and leads is. This can be really helpful if you’re trying to measure which marketing channels (like Craigslist vs. Apartments.com) gain the most leads and applicants.
- Additional Education or Training
Now that you’re pumped and ready for the New Year, it’s a good time to learn new skills or brush up on your training. Take advantage of property management podcasts on your drive to work or when visiting the properties. - Improve Resident Satisfaction
Ensuring that your community is happy is one of your top priorities. Happy residents can easily become life-long residents, so it’s important that you brainstorm a few ways to increase tenant satisfaction. For example, you can try to get closer to new residents with a move-in checklist or utility checklist. If you have some time, you can boost satisfaction rates throughout your entire community with a successful resident event. Once you have figured out what you want to do, create a measurable goal for yourself and try to reach it!

While you might depend on your maintenance crew to keep a look out for issues, it’s still important that you can distinguish the signs of property damage. Knowing the signs of pest infestation or serious mold can save a property from sizable (and costly) damages, when others don’t notice it. Additionally, you’ll want to make sure your residents are comfortable with submitting maintenance requests and that each request gets handled in a timely manner.
